Masunaga
Masunaga Optical has been making eyeglasses in Fukui, Japan since 1905. The company still works to its mission statement: "We manufacture excellent eyeglasses. We want to make a profit if we can, but we don't hesitate to take a loss. It is always in our thoughts to manufacture excellent eyeglasses."
Every frame passes through more than 400 steps in Masunaga's own workshop, from concept to completion. Acetate is hand-polished to a depth that machine finishing cannot reach. Hinges are milled in-house to seven-barrel specifications. Titanium is worked to a lightness that disappears on the face.
