Every frame is hand finished in small batches. The acetate styles are cut from cotton-based Takiron acetate, while metal styles such as the titanium Stratosphere pair high grade titanium and gold or silver plating with hand-lacquered inserts for presence without the weight. Sun models are fitted with Shima Optics lenses.

Sauvage was launched in 2019 by Tommy O'Gara, an American designer who has lived and worked in Japan for four decades. He previously served as president and director of DITA Asia and co-founded Native Sons, and now runs The Light Co. Ltd., the vertically integrated eyewear factory in Sabae where Sauvage is made.
How is Sauvage related to Native Sons, Max Pittion, and Shady Character?
All four are made by The Light Co. Ltd., the Japanese eyewear company Tommy O'Gara founded in 2013, and all four are handcrafted in the same Sabae and Fukui workshops. Each brand has its own identity: Sauvage is the French-inflected line, Native Sons reworks postwar American shapes, Max Pittion revives a French heritage archive, and Shady Character is the smallest and most character-driven. The same factory also produces eyewear for labels including Supreme, sacai, Visvim, and NEIGHBORHOOD. Visionary Optics carries all four brands.
Can I get Sauvage frames with prescription lenses?
Yes. Every Sauvage optical frame at Visionary Optics can be fit with ZEISS prescription lenses, and most single vision prescriptions are ready the same day. We also fit progressive and specialty lens prescriptions, and we can fit prescription lenses into Sauvage sunglasses.
