Why Movitra at Visionary Optics?

Movitra was founded in Milan in 2014 by three friends, Filippo Pagliacci, Giuseppe Pizzuto, and Diego Ponzetto, around a single idea: a closing mechanism that lets a frame rotate on itself so the temples fold across and protect the lenses. That mechanism became Motus, and every Movitra collection since has been built around it.

Nomad is Movitra's first capsule collection, and it is the line we chose to bring to New York. The Milan house handed this capsule to Japanese craftsmen to execute by hand, and the result reads like expedition equipment: a glacier-inspired round front on the Nomad 01, an aviator front on the Nomad 02, both carrying titanium blinkers with mesh inserts and grip-textured temples. The metal on every Nomad is hand-antiqued one component at a time, so no two frames leave the workshop looking quite the same.

We stock Nomad at all three of our boutiques, in two designs and four colorways each: Solid Army, Desert Sand, Solid Grey Matte, and Swamp Matte, with Desert Sand running polarized lenses in both models. Come try the rotation in person. It stops being a specification the moment you hold it.

The Visionary Optics Difference

Authorized Movitra Retailer

The Nomad capsule direct from Milan, 100% authentic, stocked at all three Visionary Optics boutiques in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

The Motus Closure

Movitra's patented rotating system turns the frame on itself so the temples fold across the lenses instead of leaving them exposed. Nomad adds a safety lock that holds the frame in the wearing position.

Handmade in Japan

The Nomad capsule is crafted by hand in Japan from Mazzucchelli 1849 acetate and CNC-sculpted titanium, with metal components individually hand-antiqued so each frame carries its own patina.

Expert Movitra Fitting

Our opticians fit Nomad with ZEISS prescription lenses, the same lens partner Movitra specifies from the factory, same-day for single vision.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Movitra Nomad different from other luxury sunglasses?
Nomad is Movitra's first capsule collection, handmade in Japan and built around design cues from technical and survival gear, off-road vehicles, and expeditions like the Paris Dakar Rally. Two designs anchor it: the Nomad 01 with a glacier-inspired round front and double bridge, and the Nomad 02 with an aviator front. Both carry titanium blinkers with mesh inserts, grip-textured temple details, and Movitra's patented Motus rotating closure. The metal components are hand-antiqued individually, so every frame develops its own character.
Where is Movitra eyewear made?
Movitra is a Milan-based house, founded and headquartered in Italy. The Nomad capsule specifically is made by hand in Japan, where each piece is individually crafted. The acetate comes from Mazzucchelli 1849 in Italy, so a single Nomad frame draws on Italian material, Italian design, and Japanese handwork.
How much do Movitra Nomad sunglasses cost?
Movitra Nomad sunglasses are $1,115. Both the Nomad 01 and the Nomad 02 are priced the same across all four colorways. Prescription lenses are quoted separately depending on your prescription and lens choice.
Who founded Movitra?
Movitra was founded in Milan in 2014 by three friends, Filippo Pagliacci, Giuseppe Pizzuto, and Diego Ponzetto. The company began with a single idea: a closing mechanism that would let a frame rotate on itself so the temples protect the lenses. That mechanism became Motus, and every collection since has been built around it.
What is Motus?
Motus is Movitra's patented closing system. Instead of folding flat behind the lenses the way conventional temples do, the frame rotates on itself so the temples wrap around the front and cover the lenses. This shields the most fragile part of the eyewear when it is not being worn, and it lets the frame lie flat without pressure on the lens surface. The mechanism is stress-tested to over 500,000 rotations. On the Nomad capsule, Movitra added a safety lock that secures Motus in the wearing position, a first for the system.
Can I get Movitra Nomad with prescription lenses?
Yes. Movitra ships Nomad with ZEISS lenses from the factory, and ZEISS is our lens partner as well, so prescription Nomad sunglasses stay true to how the frame was designed. Our optometrists can examine you on site and our opticians will fit your prescription into any Nomad colorway. We also make same-day single vision ZEISS lenses in about an hour at our boutiques.
Where can I buy Movitra in NYC?
Visionary Optics is an authorized Movitra retailer with three New York City locations: Upper East Side at 1409 3rd Avenue, New York, NY 10075, Chelsea at 173 7th Avenue, New York, NY 10011, and Carroll Gardens at 315 Court Street, Brooklyn, NY 11231. We carry the Nomad capsule at all three boutiques in two designs and four colorways, and we can transfer frames to any location on request. Every frame is 100% authentic. We also ship nationwide, with or without prescription lenses, so you can order from anywhere in the United States.
