NYC's Largest Luxury Eyewear Collection

Masunaga K3

Masunaga designed by Kenzo Takada was launched in Paris in 2014 as a collaboration between the 1905-founded Japanese eyewear house Masunaga and legendary designer Kenzo Takada. The collection unites Japanese precision craftsmanship with Kenzo's signature use of color, pattern, and 1920s-inspired jewelry detailing. Each frame is handmade in Fukui, Japan from titanium and hand-polished acetate — some accented with 18k gold. The 2014 Campanule model won the Silmo d'Or for Best Sunglasses.

Why Masunaga K3 at Visionary Optics?

Masunaga × Kenzo Takada is a collaboration launched in Paris in 2014 between Masunaga (Japan's oldest eyewear maker since 1905) and the late Kenzo Takada, the legendary French-Japanese fashion designer who founded the Kenzo fashion house. After Takada's passing in 2020, the collaboration continues under his K3 brand, led by his longtime creative team.

Visionary Optics carries the Masunaga × Kenzo Takada collection across our three NYC locations. Each frame is handcrafted in Sabae, Japan using pure titanium, premium acetate, and 18-karat gold for limited editions — featuring detailed engravings reminiscent of 1920s jewelry and motifs drawn from Masunaga's emblem and Takada's family crest.

Prefer to try before you buy? Visit any of our three NYC locations for an in-person fitting. Many frames are available for same-day pickup with ZEISS single vision lenses.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Masunaga x Kenzo Takada?
Masunaga x Kenzo Takada is a collaboration between the Japanese eyewear maker Masunaga and the Paris based fashion designer Kenzo Takada, launched in 2014. The collection pairs Masunaga's Sabae manufacturing with Takada's design sensibility, producing frames with decorative detailing not found in the standard Masunaga line.
Where are Masunaga x Kenzo Takada frames made?
The collection is manufactured in Sabae, Fukui Prefecture, Japan, in the same workshop as the standard Masunaga line. Frames use titanium and acetate, with 18k gold detailing on select models.
How much do Masunaga x Kenzo Takada glasses cost?
Most Masunaga x Kenzo Takada frames range from approximately $600 to $900, depending on materials and detailing. Models with 18k gold elements sit at the higher end of the range.
Is the collection still produced after Kenzo Takada's passing?
Yes. Kenzo Takada passed away in 2020, and the eyewear collaboration has continued under K3, the design house established to carry his work forward. New collections are still produced with Masunaga in Sabae.
How is it different from the regular Masunaga line?
The standard Masunaga line is defined by restraint and traditional Japanese craftsmanship. The Kenzo Takada collaboration adds a decorative layer, including engravings inspired by 1920s jewelry and more expressive shapes and color combinations, while keeping the same Sabae construction quality.
Can I get Masunaga x Kenzo Takada frames with prescription lenses?
Yes. Every optical frame in the collection can be fit with ZEISS prescription lenses at Visionary Optics, and most single vision prescriptions are ready the same day. We also fit progressive and specialty lens prescriptions.
Where can I buy Masunaga x Kenzo Takada in NYC?
Visionary Optics is an authorized Masunaga x Kenzo Takada retailer with three New York City locations: Upper East Side (1409 3rd Avenue), Chelsea (173 7th Avenue), and Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn (315 Court Street). Every frame is 100% authentic, and our opticians can walk you through the collection. We also ship nationwide, with or without prescription lenses, so you can order from anywhere in the United States.
