The Story
Masunaga Optical was founded in 1905 in Fukui Prefecture, Japan — the birthplace of Japanese eyewear. For over a century, they have pursued the finest craftsmanship and condensed it into the art of eyewear. MOC was born from a completely new challenge: to pour every uncompromising technique into a single, extraordinary collection.

The standard Masunaga aesthetic is about eliminating waste, but MOC deliberately embraces decoration that would be considered excess for eyewear, executed with the same discipline. Each MOC model is produced as a limited run of 150 pieces worldwide.
What are Masunaga MOC frames made from?
MOC frames combine sterling silver 925 decorative elements with 5-micron gold plating, dual-layer acetate construction, and mineral glass lenses on the sun models. The 5-micron plating is a specification that allows no correction during application, and the custom nose pads are double-layered using four separate molds. Every frame is made in Masunaga's own workshop in Sabae, Japan, by the company that won Japan's first gold prize at the SILMO d'Or.

MOC frames range from approximately $1,500 to $2,500, depending on the model and the materials used. That places the collection well above the standard Masunaga line, which runs roughly $450 to $700, and reflects the sterling silver, heavy gold plating, and the very small production runs.

Yes. Every MOC optical frame at Visionary Optics can be fit with ZEISS prescription lenses, and most single vision prescriptions are ready the same day. We also fit progressive and specialty lens prescriptions. The sun models use mineral glass lenses, and our opticians can talk you through the options for adding a prescription to those.
