MYKITA is a Berlin eyewear house that designs, engineers, and manufactures under one roof, an unusual arrangement in an industry built on outsourcing. The result is a catalogue that spans featherweight stainless steel, hand-polished acetate, and 3D-printed polyamide, each line engineered rather than styled. MYKITA was founded in Berlin in 2003 and still designs, prototypes and manufactures every frame at the MYKITA HAUS, its modern manufactory in Kreuzberg. The company describes its approach as "Handmade in Berlin — Modern Manufactory," combining specialised handcraft with its own patented engineering. The result is eyewear with a distinctive tailored quality, from the openly displayed spiral hinge on steel models like Sesi and Kepler to hand finished acetate and 3D printed MYLON.
We stock MYKITA at all three Visionary Optics locations, on the Upper East Side, in Chelsea, and in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, with optical frames and sunglasses across the LITE, NO1, DECADES, MYLON and LESSRIM collections. As an independent practice we fit every MYKITA frame with ZEISS prescription lenses, and most single vision prescriptions are ready the same day.
MYKITA frames are built to be worn daily for years. The hingeless construction has no screws to loosen, the stainless steel is light enough to forget you are wearing it, and our opticians handle adjustments and fitting in store. If a model or colour you want is at another of our locations, we can transfer it on request.

Who founded MYKITA?
MYKITA was founded in Berlin in 2003 by Moritz Krüger, Harald Gottschling, Daniel Haffmans and Philipp Haffmans. The name comes from the company's first premises in a former Kindertagesstätte, the German word for a day nursery, known in everyday speech as a Kita. The first stainless steel collection, NO1, launched in 2004 and introduced the patented hingeless design the brand is known for. Moritz Krüger leads the company today as CEO and creative director.
What is the MYKITA spiral hinge?
MYKITA's openly displayed spiral hinge is a patented construction built from interlocking stainless steel parts held under spring tension, with no screws and no welding. The hinge is left visible as a design element, reflecting the company's principle that the technical solution must also be an aesthetic one. It removes the most common failure point on a metal frame, so an optician never needs to tighten a hinge screw. The design runs across the NO1, LITE, DECADES and LESSRIM collections.
Can I get MYKITA frames with prescription lenses?
Yes. We fit MYKITA frames with ZEISS prescription lenses, and most single vision prescriptions can be completed the same day at any of our three New York locations. We work with ZEISS lenses exclusively. Progressives, bifocals and specialty lens options are available, and our opticians and optometrists can advise on which lens suits your prescription and how you wear your glasses.
