Native Sons was founded by Tommy O'Gara, formerly creative director at Dita, who went on to launch Thom Browne Asia, together with Shinsuke Takizawa of the Tokyo label NEIGHBORHOOD. The house line is drawn from postwar industrial design, and its models carry the names of authors and characters: Asimov, Bradbury, Orwell, Verne, Gibson.
Every frame is built in Japan at The Light Co., the founders' own company, in its factories in Sabae and Fukui. The acetate styles are cut from plant-based cellulose acetate and the metal styles are hand-polished titanium. The line runs collaborations with NEIGHBORHOOD on the Kowalski and the Chase, and the Tetsu is a tribute to the Japanese racing outfit Team Ikuzawa, its temples running straight rather than curling at the ear so the frame clears a helmet.
