Titanium Museum at Visionary Optics
Titanium Museum catalogues its own work the way a museum catalogues a collection. Releases are issued as numbered accessions rather than seasons, styles are filed into departments, and the practice is run by a founding director and curator rather than a design team. Every piece in the first delivery is a pair of sunglasses with a titanium frame. Visionary Optics is an Authorized Retailer for the line.
There is no price on this page and no cart, and that is deliberate. The first Titanium Museum frames are kept at our Chelsea shop at 173 7th Avenue, New York, NY 10011, and you can see one there or have it invoiced and shipped. What Titanium Museum Eyewear Is
The brand describes its own method best: components designers usually hide are post-modernistically exposed and enlarged, so the screws and hinges are integrated as deliberate recognisable design features. The temple-end assembly forms a letter T through its combined mechanical structure, and that assembly is the brand's identifier in place of a logo. If you have found most titanium eyewear discreet to the point of anonymity, this is the argument against that.
The work is filed into three departments, and each is a real grouping rather than a marketing label.
Collects the objects that define the core visual language of the practice: engineered titanium works with subtle cracks and mineralised surfaces. Most of what is here belongs to it.
Leaves surfaces unpolished so that oxidation and patina are allowed rather than designed out. The brand's own line is that damage is not simulated but replaced by structural clarity and mechanical exposure. Scrapology 01 comes from this department.
Described by the brand as a developing department for experimental works, exploring new materials and finishes, where playful framing contrasts deliberately with serious objects. For Your Smiling Face comes from this one.
The practice traded under an earlier name between 2023 and 2025 and adopted the name Titanium Museum in 2025, which the brand calls the opening of its main entrance hall. Old SKU prefixes still carry the earlier name, so you will see it in places.
Accessions, and What a Numbered Accession Means
An accession is the museum term for an object entering a collection and being formally recorded in it. Titanium Museum uses it in place of a season. A style is not released, it is accessioned, and it carries that accession's number. The catalogue in hand covers Accessions I through III.
That matters practically. The catalogue states an edition size for each style, so an accession number reads as a date stamp on a catalogued object rather than a season tag on a product. It also tells you where a frame sits in the practice's development, with Accession I the earliest work here and Accession III the most recent.
Soft Brutalism and Trypophiliac are Accession I. Noise Complaint, Trachysynthetic, Scrapology 01 and For Your Smiling Face are Accession II. Specimen 01 and Specimen 02 are Accession III.
The Frames
All eight styles are sunglasses, and all eight have titanium frames with steel screws. The catalogue records titanium nose pads on every style except Scrapology 01, which is built with a nose stand instead. Spring hinges are specified on the Accession II and Accession III styles. The Accession I spec blocks do not carry a hinge row at all, so we will not tell you what is in them until the brand does.
Eye sizes run from 45 to 53. Bridges run from 19 to 25 and temples from 145 to 152. Every colourway has a stated lens category between CAT 1 and CAT 3, which is the tint density of the lens. Our opticians can put the categories side by side in daylight, which is more useful than reading the number.
Two of the styles have descriptions written by the brand itself.
Soft Brutalism is a classic panto shape with deliberate cracks embellishment and exterior textures. It is a unisex design with titanium nose pads and acetate temple tips.
Trypophiliac is inspired by coral and bone, with perforations that evoke a biomechanical aesthetic. The brand notes they are functional, lightening the frame while maintaining strength.
The other six styles, Noise Complaint, Trachysynthetic, Scrapology 01, For Your Smiling Face, Specimen 01 and Specimen 02, have no description written by the brand in any published source; they belong to accessions that post-date its last product pages. We would rather say so than invent a paragraph, and it is another reason this launch begins in person.
The first delivery is eight styles in one colourway each, across five finishes: Black Texture, Bronze, Earth Mineral, Hello Yellow and Polished Raw Metal.

Visionary Optics has been an independent optical practice in New York since 1989. We are not a chain, and we buy what we think is worth putting on a face. Titanium Museum is here because almost nobody else in titanium is doing this.
We have three shops and the Titanium Museum frames are at Chelsea. To see them at Upper East Side or Carroll Gardens, call ahead and we will move a frame between locations.
An optician will fit the frame properly rather than hand you a mirror. We are a full optometric practice as well: you can have your eyes examined here, and ZEISS prescription lenses are fitted in house by the same people who sold you the frame.
Practical Notes
Prescription lenses. Every one of these frames is a pair of sunglasses, and prescription sun lenses can be fitted to them. Bring your prescription or have the exam here. Our opticians will tell you which of the eight styles takes your prescription well and which does not, because a strong prescription and a deep frame are not always friends. Insurance. We take vision insurance toward the eye exam. Frames from a limited line like this sit outside insurance frame allowances, and we will tell you where you stand before anything is ordered.
Shipping. We ship Titanium Museum anywhere we ship. These are single pieces from small editions, so the frame is invoiced rather than sold through the cart.
Pricing. We do not quote Titanium Museum prices by email. Once retail pricing is published we will give it to you in the shop or on the phone, where we can also say what is still on the tray.
