Bevel was founded in 1999 by Richard Mewha and Rick Nelson. Led today by a Brit and an Italian with a shared love of alternative music and independent design, the brand has spent more than two decades quietly redefining what independent eyewear can be. Each Bevel frame is handmade in Fukui, Japan, the world's most exacting eyewear-making tradition, from premium Japanese acetate and beta-titanium, finished by hand and built to outlast trends.
The Bevel collection moves between sculptural acetates, featherweight titanium, and combination frames where metal meets acetate at the temple. The signature 8mm acetate line builds presence through thickness; the titanium pieces achieve the opposite, nearly weightless on the face. Substance with style, in the brand's own words.

Bevel was founded in 1999 by Richard Mewha and Rick Nelson, who met while working at the Optical Shop of Aspen. Mewha, originally from England and based in New York, began his eyewear career with Alain Mikli. Claudio Arena later joined the company as a partner, and Nelson has since retired. Bevel also founded and organizes LOFT NYC and LOFT SF, the trade shows that bring independent eyewear designers together.
What is BetaPlast?
BetaPlast is Bevel's signature material construction, pairing a beta titanium core with an acetate overlay. It gives a frame the visual warmth and color of acetate with the strength and flexibility of titanium.
Can I get Bevel frames with prescription lenses?
Yes. Every Bevel optical frame at Visionary Optics can be fit with ZEISS prescription lenses, and most single vision prescriptions are ready the same day. We also fit progressive and specialty lens prescriptions, and we can fit prescription lenses into Bevel sunglasses.
