Jacques Marie Mage in NYC: A Guide to New York's Largest Collection
If you have been looking for Jacques Marie Mage in New York City, you already know the challenge. Most of the collection sells out quickly, colorways come and go, and not every retailer carries a deep selection. At Visionary Optics, we have made JMM one of our cornerstone brands and built what we believe is the largest Jacques Marie Mage collection in the city, with over 200 styles available across sunglasses and optical frames at any given time.
Here is what makes shopping JMM at Visionary Optics different, and what to know before you visit.
Why We Carry So Much JMM
We started carrying Jacques Marie Mage years ago because the brand aligned with everything we care about as an independent optical shop: small batch production, exceptional materials, and designs that tell a story. As our collection grew and customers kept coming back for more, we expanded our buy to include nearly every release. Today we stock current collections, recent past seasons, and select archived pieces that are no longer available directly from the brand.
That depth matters because JMM releases are genuinely limited. Each style is produced in small quantities, and once a colorway sells out, it is typically gone. Having over 200 styles on hand means you can compare models side by side, try multiple colorways, and find pieces that other retailers sold through months ago.
What Makes Jacques Marie Mage Different
For anyone discovering the brand for the first time, JMM stands apart from other luxury eyewear in a few key ways.
Every acetate frame is handcrafted in Sabae, Japan, the historic center of Japanese eyewear production. The process takes roughly 300 steps and involves nearly 100 artisans over the course of many months. Frames are cut from 10mm blocks of plant-based cellulose acetate, tumbled in custom bamboo wood chips for a smooth finish, and polished by hand multiple times. The titanium models go through their own intensive process including forging under hundreds of tons of pressure, laser welding, and ultrasonic cleaning.
Each collection is inspired by cultural figures, historical moments, and artistic movements. The names are not random. They reference poets, filmmakers, musicians, and eras that founder Jerome Mage finds meaningful. That storytelling runs through everything from the design details to the packaging.
And the production runs are genuinely limited. This is not a marketing gimmick. Once a batch is made, that is it. Some models become iconic enough to return in new colorways, but many are one and done.
Trying On JMM: What to Expect
JMM frames are substantial. They are thicker and heavier than most eyewear, and the sizing runs differently than mainstream brands. That is why trying them on in person matters.
When you visit any of our three locations, our opticians will walk you through the collection, help you understand how different models sit on your face, and make sure the fit is right. We do not rush the process. If you are between sizes on a particular model, we will tell you. If a different frame would suit your face shape better, we will show you options you might not have considered.
We also offer ZEISS prescription lenses in any JMM optical frame, with most prescriptions ready the same day. That means you can walk in, choose a frame, get fitted with precision ZEISS lenses, and walk out wearing them in about an hour.
Popular Models Worth Knowing
A few JMM models that consistently draw people in:
Zephirin is arguably the brand's most recognizable frame. Available in both a 44mm and 47mm size, it has a distinctive round shape with sculptural temples. The 44 fits smaller faces, while the 47 is slightly more versatile. Both are available in multiple colorways.
Dealan is a medium sized frame with clean lines that works for everyday wear. It is one of the more approachable JMM designs and a popular choice for first time buyers.
Molino is a refined rectangular frame with a slightly wider fit. It has a confident, classic shape that works well for both professional settings and everyday wear.
Yves is a bold, expressive frame with strong lines and a vintage sensibility. It makes a statement without trying too hard and has become a favorite among collectors.

Common Questions
Does Visionary Optics carry all JMM releases? We carry the vast majority of current releases and maintain a deep archive of past collections. If there is a specific model or colorway you are looking for, call us and we can check availability across all three locations.
Can I get prescription lenses in my JMM frames? Yes. We fit all JMM optical frames with ZEISS prescription lenses. Most prescriptions are ready the same day.
Are JMM frames worth the price? The materials, craftsmanship, and limited production genuinely set JMM apart. These are not mass produced frames with a luxury markup. Do you accept returns on JMM purchases? Yes, in accordance with our standard return policy.
