Same-Day Glasses in NYC: What You Need to Know

Whether you broke your frames on the subway this morning, just picked up a new prescription, or simply decided today is the day for a fresh pair, waiting weeks for new glasses is not something most New Yorkers have time for. At Visionary Optics, we make new glasses in about an hour at all three of our NYC locations.

Here is everything you need to know about how it works.

How Same-Day Glasses Work

The process is straightforward. Walk into any of our three locations, choose a frame, and our opticians will take your measurements and discuss lens options with you. From there, your lenses are cut and fitted in our on-site finishing lab.

For most single vision prescriptions, you are looking at about an hour from start to finish. Many progressive lens prescriptions qualify for same-day service as well, though some complex prescriptions may require an additional day.

There is no appointment needed for glasses. Just walk in during store hours.

The Lenses Make the Difference

Every pair of glasses we make uses ZEISS lenses. ZEISS is one of the oldest and most respected optics companies in the world, and their lenses are the standard we have built our practice around since 1989.

What that means for you in practical terms: sharper clarity across the entire lens surface, full UV protection, and durable coatings that resist scratches and smudges. We offer ZEISS lenses in every material and coating option, including their BlueGuard technology for screen time and PhotoFusion lenses that adapt to changing light.

What to Bring

To get your glasses made the same day, bring the following:

Your current prescription. If you do not have one, or if yours is more than a year old, we can do a comprehensive eye exam on-site at any of our locations. Walk-ins are welcome.

Your insurance card, if applicable. We accept VSP and most major medical vision plans.

Your current glasses or frames, if you are considering having new lenses put into an existing frame. Relensing is available for most frames.

Three Locations, Same Service

We have locations on the Upper East Side, in Chelsea, and in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. All three offer same-day glasses with ZEISS lenses, on-site eye exams, and access to our full collection of over 25 independent designer eyewear brands.

Hours are the same at all locations: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:30 to 5, Tuesday and Thursday from 11 to 7, and Saturday from 11 to 5. Closed Sundays.

Common Questions

How long does it actually take?
About an hour for most single vision prescriptions. Progressives and some specialty lenses may take slightly longer or require a second visit, but our opticians will let you know upfront.

Do you accept insurance?
Yes. We accept VSP and most major medical vision plans. If you are unsure whether your plan is accepted, give us a call or stop by and we will check for you.

Can I use my own frames?
Absolutely. If your frames are in good condition, we can fit them with new ZEISS lenses the same day.

What if I need an eye exam first?
We have optometrists on-site. You can walk in or book an appointment online. If your exam and glasses happen the same day, you can still walk out with a finished pair in about an hour after the exam.

What frame brands do you carry?
We carry over 25 independent designer brands including Jacques Marie Mage, Lindberg, Matsuda, AHLEM, and many others. No big-box brands. Every frame in our collection is chosen for quality and craftsmanship.
